GCSE pupils across Bridgend County Borough

Bridgend County Borough schools are celebrating another impressive set of GCSE results.

The county borough’s schools have seen a 1.5 per cent rise in performance at A*-C grades with 63.8 per cent of pupils achieving those grades compared to 62.8 per cent nationally.

Similarly, the performance at A*-G grades has increased by 1.2 percentage points to be almost in line with the national figures at this level.

Among many individual success stories on GCSE results day, an impressive 19 per cent of entries resulted in A*-A grades, meaning that Bridgend County Borough pupils continue to outperform the national average by 0.6 per cent.

I am delighted to hear about the improved performance of our pupils and I want to congratulate all of them for their hard work leading up to this day. So many fantastic achievements are being celebrated today. I’d also like to thank the teaching and support staff for their exceptional dedication to our young people’s academic and social development. It really makes a difference to their future lives.

Councillor Charles Smith, the council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration

Councillor Council Leader Huw David added: “Today is a big day for so many young people and I hope that they have achieved the results they wanted as they look towards options for higher education, training or employment.

“For anyone whose results weren’t quite what they expected, I would urge them to access the wide range of advice and support that is available to help them make the right decision.  Speak to your school, Bridgend College or Careers Wales for more information.”
