How you can become a Bridgend County Borough councillor

With the next government elections coming in May 2022, more councillors are being sought to represent their community.
Being a councillor is open to anyone over the age of 18, who are on the electoral register and have lived, worked or owned a property in the county borough for at least the past 12 months.
The local authority is holding two sessions for potential candidates considering standing in the Local Government Elections in May 2022. The virtual sessions, held on 18 and 25 November 2021 at 6.30pm, will outline the role of a councillor and the functions of the council as well as explain how to become a candidate.
Anyone interested in attending one of these sessions can e-mail membersbcbc@bridgend.gov.uk indicating which session they would prefer to attend.
The council is seeking more councillors who are as diverse as the communities they represent and are encouraging anyone under 40, females, those with disabilities, LGBTQ+, Black or Asian or from other minority groups and from a range of beliefs, cultures and personal circumstances to register their interest.
I have been honoured to serve as a local councillor, and believe that it is a privilege to be able to represent local people and to provide them with a voice on the county borough council.
Being a councillor is often demanding, but can be very rewarding and enjoyable. We represent all of the people living within a specific ward, and it is our duty to serve the community to the very best of our ability.
With the next round of local elections set to take place in May 2022, the sessions for potential candidates are a fantastic opportunity to gain a greater insight into the role of a councillor.
