Maesteg Post Office reopening in new premises

The Post Office in Maesteg which is closing in its current location at the end of today (Friday) will reopen on Wednesday, June 3 in new premises nearby.
The service, based in Talbot Street, opposite the town hall, is moving to Unit 13 in Maesteg Outdoor Market.
An experienced temporary postmaster will be providing the new service with the opening hours being Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and on Saturday, between 9am and 12.30pm

We are pleased plans have now been finalised for the move. It’s a priority for us to ensure the Post Office which is a critical service for many residents and businesses remains in the town centre.

Gareth Shylon, Post Office area network manager, said: “Due to the resignation of the current postmaster and issues with the building lease, the current post office in Talbot Street will close at the end of today (Friday) and move to temporary premises. Due to commissioning work, the branch will open as early as possible to customers on Wednesday morning.
“We are very sorry for the short interruption to the service and for any inconvenience that this may cause. Customers can access the service at any Post Office branch with Caerau and Llangynwyd being the closest.”
He added: “During the Covid-19 crisis the current branch has not been opening on Saturdays and operating from 9am – 1pm on weekdays, and therefore we believe that the move to all-day opening during the week will offer customers more choice around when they can access Post Office services.
“Like all retailers, the temporary postmaster will be putting in place the necessary social distancing measures to ensure that customers and staff can and work in the branch safely.
“We are very grateful to BCBC for their support in identifying and securing a premises for us to use in the town centre. We understand that having continued access to Post Office is important to customers and local businesses while we continue our search for a permanent new operator.
“All of the products and services that customers use every day will be available at the branch, with the exception of car tax, passport renewals and specialised identity services. The collection of Royal Mail notified letters and parcels that was available at the former branch is however not moving to the new location due to space and secure storage requirements.”
A spokesman for Royal Mail said it was working with Post Office Ltd to find a suitable solution close to Maesteg for customers to collect these items. As a temporary measure, customers will be asked to collect items which could not be delivered first time from the Bridgend Customer Service on the Waterton Industrial Estate.
He said: “The vast majority of parcels are currently being delivered first time. If we cannot deliver an item first time, we attempt to deliver to a nearby neighbour or a customer nominated neighbour - if this is not possible the item will be returned to Bridgend Customer Service Point for customer collection or redelivery. Customers can also rearrange a redelivery free of charge on a day that is convenient for them.”
