Winter Fuel Support Scheme Payment Doubled to £200

Eligible households facing rising energy bills are to receive an extra £100 relief payment as part of the Welsh Governments’ Household Support Fund which is providing £51m of targeted support for families and the most vulnerable in society.

Originally launched in December 2021, the scheme provided struggling households with a one-off payment of £100 to help with Winter heating bills. This figure has now been doubled to £200 due to the ongoing cost increases in energy.

The residents of Bridgend County Borough are being urged not to miss out on the funding increase and to contact local authorities who will process new applications from eligible households.

Councils have contacted people they believe are eligible and applications can also be made online through the council’s ‘My Account’ facility until the deadline of 28 February. People who have already received a £100 payment under the scheme do not need to anything as they will receive the further £100 payment in the coming weeks.

Thousands of eligible local residents have already taken advantage of the original funding offer and are receiving support to help keep their homes warm this Winter.

We hope this further increase will go some additional way to alleviating the financial pressure on any households that might be struggling at this time.

Deputy Leader, Hywel Williams

The scheme is open to households where someone is claiming universal benefit, income support, working tax credits, means-tested welfare benefits, income-related jobseeker’s allowance or employment and support allowance. Further details are available on local authority websites, which will be updated to reflect the increased payment.
