What is Hate Crime?
Hate crimes are any crimes that target a person because of hostility or prejudice towards their:
- disability
- race or ethnicity
- religion or belief
- sexual orientation
- transgender identity
A hate crime can be committed against a person or property. This can include:
- verbal abuse
- intimidation
- threats
- harassment
- assault
- bullying
- damage to property
Report hate crime
There are several ways you can report a hate crime, as a victim, witness, or on behalf of someone else.
In an emergency, call 999.
To report non-urgent crime, call 101.
Victims are always encouraged to contact the police but you may want to report the incident directly to Victim Support. Support services will be offered within 48 hours.
