Fit for the Future video transcript

Can you support us in shaping a brighter/better future for the county borough?

We are seeking your views on setting this year’s council budget.

Each year, councils must calculate their ‘budget requirement’ for council tax based on:

  1. planned expenditure on delivery of services;
  2. expected income from fees and charges, grants, including Revenue Support Grant, and non-domestic rates.

Local authorities are required by law to have a balanced budget.

Bridgend County Borough Council plans on a four-year cycle. These plans are known as the Medium Term Financial Strategy.

Council Tax in Bridgend County Borough represents 29.2% of the total income.

This year, we want to engage with residents on a longer term vision for the county borough.

The impact of Covid-19 has meant that in 2020 and 2021 we have had to deliver things very differently. Which included:
Increased digitalisation of some of our services.
Enable a large number of our staff to work from home.
Switch from traditional methods for accessing customer services to adding more resources to telephone and online.

We need to know what has worked well, and where we need to continue to make changes or improvements as we recover from the pandemic.
As part of this year’s budget setting process, we’re asking your views on:

• Our performance over the past 12 months
• Support for business, tourism and the economy
• Wellbeing in our communities
• Customer face-to-face access
• Digitalisation of services
• Fees and charges
• Council tax levels

We want to ensure that we are able to deliver sustainable and effective services for the next five to ten years.

Can you support us to ensure we make the right decisions to for our county borough?
