£400k programme of pavement improvements underway

With £1.5m worth of resurfacing upgrades nearing completion on some of Bridgend County Borough’s most well-used routes, a £400k programme of pavement improvements is now getting underway.

During the last couple of months, more than a dozen roads including the B4281 through Cefn Cribwr, the B4181, Coychurch Road near Brackla, the top of the A4061 Bwlch mountain, the Ewenny and Park Plaza roundabouts in Bridgend, and the Stormy Lane junction on the A48 have all been resurfaced ready for winter.

By the spring, Bridgend County Borough Council will have also improved the footways along sixteen streets throughout the county borough by making any necessary repairs and addressing drainage issues.

Improvements have already been made to the pavement at Heol Onnen in North Cornelly, while work has started in Fairfield, North Cornelly and Dol Afon, Pencoed.

Footways will also be improved along sections of the following streets: Princess Street (Maesteg), Blosse Street (Nantyffyllon), East Avenue (Cefn Cribwr), West Avenue (Cefn Cribwr), West Drive (Porthcawl), Burns Crescent (Bryntirion), Brynffrwyd Close (Coychurch), Maes Y Wern (Pencoed), Heol Dewi Sant (Bettws), Hill View (Pontycymer), Moira Terrace (Ogmore Vale) and Kenry Street (Evanstown).

We were grateful to receive a £1.25m grant from Welsh Government towards the cost of resurfacing several key roads that had been identified by technical surveys as needing work. Because safe roads and pavements are such a necessity, we were happy to commit an additional £250k towards that resurfacing work and are also funding a £400k scheme to improve numerous footways over the next few months.
