£90,000 worth of funding awarded for pitch & drainage improvements in the Llynfi Valley

Two sports clubs in the Llynfi Valley are now able to make pitch and drainage improvements after being awarded a combined total of £90,000, thanks to Bridgend County Borough Council’s Community Asset Transfer (CAT) Fund.

The council’s CAT Programme enables community groups to take on the management of assets and services so that they can be developed sustainably for future generations.

Llangynwyd Rangers FC have been awarded £50,000 to improve the two football pitches at Llangynwyd Playing Fields (Llan Siro), and the club are also planning to undertake a refurbishment of the pavilion.

A statement from the club, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Llangynwyd Community Council, Bridgend County Borough Council, as well as other organisations such as Sport Wales, Coalfields Regeneration and the FAW.

“The club has the community at heart and the aim is to provide an environment open to all, improving the social, mental, and well-being of everyone involved.

“Thanks to everyone who continues to be part of this extremely exciting journey for the club and community as a whole.”

Also, Maesteg Harlequins RFC have been allocated £40,000 to enhance the two rugby pitches at South Parade, with additional funding also provided by the Welsh Rugby Union.

The funding awarded under the Community Asset Transfer Fund will ensure that Maesteg Harlequins RFC and Llangynwyd Rangers will be able improve their playing surfaces in readiness for the new rugby and football seasons.

Both of these facilities are widely used by members of the community, and they play a vital role in helping people get active, whilst also offering several mental health and well-being benefits.
