Anti-littering school poster competition winner announced

A pupil from Betws Primary School has been announced as the winner of this year’s ‘Love It, Don’t Trash It’ anti-littering poster competition.

Sienna Sanford’s winning design features a colourful cartoon character in the shape of planet Earth, carrying away a waste bin filled with litter, accompanied by the slogans - ‘Don’t Litter’, ‘Be Good’ and ‘Save the World’.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Martyn Jones, visited the school to congratulate the winner on Friday January 21 and to reveal the final poster which has been professionally made into signage to be displayed in the Garw Valley.

The Deputy Mayor also visited three other participating schools – Tynyrheol Primary, Ffaldau Primary, and Blaengarw Primary in order to congratulate all those who took part in the competition.

Once again, the Love It, Don’t Trash It! campaign has been hugely successful with pupils across the county borough enjoying the opportunity to learn more about their environment.

Many congratulations to Sienna whose poster carries a poignant and effective message which urges everyone to protect the environment we live in.

It is great to see so much enthusiasm among pupils and their commitment to keeping our communities litter-free.

This is the 5^th successful poster competition carried out since 2019 with schools in Porthcawl, Pyle & Cornelly, Brackla, and last year the Ogmore Valley, taking part. Abercerdin Primary was the previous winning school.

Once again, the Council worked in partnership with Nature Quest who designed a digital toolkit for the pupils focusing on the issue of littering and waste recycling, as well as interactive workshops and litter picking exercises in the local area.
