Better access planned for Wesley Church Centre

Funding of £2,920 has been awarded towards plans for helping to improve access to the Wesley Church Centre in Tondu.

Awarded by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Reach Rural Development team via their ‘Thriving Rural Communities Fund’, the money will pay for a landscape architect to produce necessary plans for extra parking spaces, better access to the entrance, as well as some landscaping work ahead of further funding applications being made.

The Reach team was pleased to support this project as the centre is a bit of a hidden gem.

The centre itself has been recently renovated, and the volunteers who run the centre wanted to make some landscaping improvements so that the building can become more visible from the A4063.

With parking also having previously been identified as a problem, the new spaces will make the centre more accessible and encourage greater use of the facility which is capable of hosting a range of events.

Councillor Charles Smith, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education

The project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

There are 21 rural wards in Bridgend County Borough that are eligible for rural development funding. If you have ideas for your rural community that you would like to develop, please visit www.bridgendreach.org.uk or email reach@bridgend.gov.uk for further information.
