A temporary road closure will be in place on the A4061 Frithwaun Bridge between Blackmill and Pant-yr-Awel this weekend.
The closure is scheduled from 6am on Saturday 6 February to 11.59pm on Sunday 7 February in order to allow new bridge beams to be installed.
Councillor Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “This essential work is the latest in a series of investments the council is making into local highways infrastructure, and forms part of a programme of work intended to refurbish, strengthen and repair local bridges.
“It will provide the Frithwaun Bridge with a new lease of life, and will ensure that residents will be able to continue to safely use this important local link for many years to come.
“Every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience and complete the work as quickly as possible, which may be earlier than scheduled, and a diversionary route will be in place while it is underway.”
The diversion route follows the A4061 Blackmill, A4093 Blackmill, A4093 Glynogwr, A4093 Gilfach Goch, A4119 Tonyrefail, A4058 Porth, A4058 Llwynypia, A4058 Treorchy, A4061 Bwlch Mountain, A4061 Nantymoel and A4061 Lewistown, and the same route in reverse for those travelling in the opposite direction.
While the diversion is in place, First Cymru Buses Ltd has advised that its number 74 service will be diverted via the A4093 and Llangeinor, and will be unable to serve stops through Blackmill and part of Bryncethin on Saturday and Sunday.
