Bridgend County Borough playgrounds prepare to reopen

Children’s play areas in Bridgend County Borough are set to reopen with new rules in place to help keep people safe and limit potential exposure to the Covid-19 coronavirus.

It follows the recent announcement from Welsh Government that local authorities can start planning for the safe reopening of playgrounds, outdoor gyms and local funfairs.

With 110 sites to prepare and get ready, Bridgend County Borough Council is using a rolling programme to open local playgrounds.

The first set will be ready to use by Friday 24 July and will include Griffin Park in Porthcawl, Maesteg Welfare Park, Newbridge Fields in Bridgend, Pencoed Recreation Ground, Victoria Street in Pontycymmer, Waunllwyd in Nant-Y-Moel and the play area adjacent to Ynysawdre Pool.

New signage is being installed at each of the sites featuring advice on issues ranging from the importance of observing social distancing within a play area to the essential use of hand-sanitiser, and the council is aiming to have all play areas reopened by 30 July at the latest.

The council is making every effort to ensure that children’s play areas can all be made available again as quickly as possible, and just as soon as we are certain that it is safe to do so.

We have 110 sites to prepare, so please bear with us while we get them ready, and remember that you will need to bring along your own hand sanitiser in order to use the play areas safely.

We must all play our part in keeping our communities safe and well as far as possible, and to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
