Bridgend Sports Support Grant Funding Deadline

Sports clubs in Bridgend county borough have until Friday, May 15 to apply for grants of up to £1,000 to help them with day-to-day operating costs during the coronavirus pandemic.

In April, the local authority reconfigured its £75,000 Bridgend Sports Support Fund – part of the community asset transfer process - to help provide immediate financial aid to sports clubs during the Covid-19 outbreak.

As part of the grant application, sports clubs will need to submit copies of the relevant proof of payments such as invoices, receipts and/or bank statements showing the expenditure for the period after March 31, 2020.

In order for funding to be approved and allocated by the end of May, enabling sports clubs to obtain maximum benefit from this source of funding during this difficult time, the deadline for submitting applications is May 15.

The support grant was originally intended to encourage participation, growth and improvement in sport, primarily aimed at supporting mini, junior and youth clubs and under-represented sports and groups.

But due to the ongoing uncertainty, the funding criteria was extended so that all sports clubs in the county borough can submit a funding application requesting immediate financial support towards general operating costs in addition to grants that can support equipment purchases and training. We have been liaising with the governing bodies of rugby, football, cricket and bowls – and have circulated forms to all sports clubs which use council-owned facilities.
