Car park improvements for valleys gateway school

Bridgend County Borough Council is investing £86,500 in making additional safety improvements to the car park and drop-off point at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen.

The work, which will take seven weeks to complete, will introduce a new one-way system for buses and vehicles visiting the school to drop off and collect pupils.

A series of speed bumps will ensure that drivers do not exceed the specified limit, and a new pelican crossing point will be installed to help ensure that pupils, staff and visitors can cross the road safely.

Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd. has been appointed to carry out the work, which will take place between 9am and 2pm each day in order to avoid peak drop-off and collection times.

The council regularly reviews safety when using school sites and as our ‘valleys gateway’ school, Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen is an extremely large and busy location with lots of vehicular movement on and around the premises.

These new improvements will help to keep staff, pupils, parents, carers, guardians and school visitors safe, and every effort will be made to avoid inconvenience and to complete the works as soon as possible.
