Children to benefit from free access to musical instruments and tuition

Bridgend County Borough Council welcomes the launch of Welsh Government’s National Plan for Music Education and the National Music Service that will ensure that no child in the county borough misses out on music tuition and activities due to a lack of financial means.

The vision, priorities and programmes of work are exciting, and they will be the start of a re-invigoration of music education in Wales, complementing the existing excellent work of Bridgend Music Service.

With the support of Bridgend Music Service, children will see these programmes rolled out in schools and other settings from September 2022.

Young people between the ages of three and sixteen will have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument as well as singing and making music in our schools and communities.

The National Music Service will operate as a ‘hub’, with the Welsh Local Government Association co-ordinating the Music Service’s programmes with a wide range of organisations.

This will also help schools and settings in their delivery of the Curriculum for Wales and provide more diverse opportunities for children and young people to experience music outside schools and settings.

It’s vital that every child has free access to musical instruments as they can help to increase a child’s confidence as well as playing a part in helping them to shape their personalities.

This initiative will also help to protect the beauty of the arts and hopefully we will see many young people fall in love with music whilst trying out different instruments.
