Community Hub activities grow with new gardening club

Four community hubs have sprung up in Bridgend County Borough during the last couple of years, and the choice of activities on offer has grown further thanks to the launch of a new gardening club in Bridgend.

Suitable for all abilities, the new gardening club meets every Saturday from 10am – 4pm at the Bridgend hub in Ty Pen Y Bont, 110 Merthyr Mawr Road, and is for anyone who is interested in soil, seeding and socialising!

Aimed at anyone who fancies making new friends, meeting people or trying their hand at a new activity, the four community hubs can be found in Bridgend, Maesteg, Sarn and Pyle.

 

The Sarn Community Hub is held at the Adult Support Centre (CF32 9SW) and has recently introduced two new community sessions in partnership with the Local Community Coordinator and Awen-Libraries – a knitting group on Monday mornings (10am – 12pm) and a craft group on Friday mornings (10am – 12pm).

 

The Maesteg Community Hub in Cwm Calon (CF34 9UN) is now open in the evenings, providing ‘All about you Wales – Pilates and Mindfulness’ on Monday 6pm – 8pm, a Sewing and Stitching group which already has over 10 members every Tuesday 6pm – 7:45pm, Artful Yoga on Tuesdays 6pm – 7:45pm and the Gateway club (a club for learning disabled residents) every Wednesday, 6pm – 8pm.

 

In Pyle, the Community Hub is based in Pyle Life Centre (CF33 6BS) and hosts a Drama club which can be attended by anyone with a learning disability every Thursday afternoon from 1:30pm – 2:30pm. The memory lane café is also located in Pyle Life Centre, an area which those living with dementia and their carers can go for a cup of tea and a biscuit every Friday Morning from 9:30am.

 

Also available in Bridgend is the Crossroads Care Saturday social club, assisting people with mild and moderate dementia and Calan DVS a support group working together to end domestic violence and abuse, beginning in July,

The community hubs are a great opportunity for the communities of Bridgend County Borough to get involved and meet new people.

These clubs and groups are an excellent example of collaborative working, providing local activities for residents to have fun, keep active, socialise, and have a go at something new.”

Each community hub also has a range of facilities available for use, including numerous meeting rooms, a sensory room, accessible facilities and more.
