Council and First Cymru agree early morning buses

A number of early morning bus routes have been reinstated across Bridgend County Borough to support key workers and help them travel between their homes and work.
As the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic continues to affect local services, the new timetable has been arranged following a meeting between the council and First Cymru to discuss what extra support might be possible.
From Tuesday 14 April, key workers will be able to use the following early morning services:
- Service 63: 6:40am from Porthcawl to Bridgend, and 7:35am from Bridgend to Porthcawl.
- Service 70: 6:25am from Cymmer to Bridgend, and 8am from Bridgend to Cymmer.
- Service 73: 6:40am from Blaengarw to Bridgend, and 7:35am from Bridgend to Blaengarw.
- Service 74: 6:40am from Nantymoel to Bridgend, 8:17am from Nantymoel to Bridgend and 7:30am from Bridgend to Nantymoel.
- Service X2: 6:20am from Bridgend to Cardiff, and 7:20am from Cardiff to Bridgend.
I am delighted that we have been able to work in partnership with First Cymru to arrange these additional services, and I hope that they prove to be a major boost for key workers who are continuing to do fantastic work in providing essential services during the crisis.
With stringent cleaning procedures in place, social distancing measures will be used on board the buses to help keep passengers safe. Key workers are able to travel for free thanks to the latest Welsh Government initiative, and any fare-paying passengers will be asked to use cashless payments wherever possible in order to limit the risk of exposure, and help protect drivers and passengers alike.
I’d also like to thank the drivers themselves, and recognise the efforts they are making towards the fight against Covid-19.
Councillor Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities
