Council celebrates vital role of social workers

On Tuesday 16 March, Bridgend County Borough Council will join social workers locally and across the globe to mark World Social Work Day.

 

The theme of this year’s event, organised by the International Federation of Social Workers is ‘Ubuntu: I am because we are’. Ubuntu is an African Zulu term meaning ‘humanity’ and is a philosophy that’s more than 2,000 years old.

 

‘I am because we are’ is a concept that aligns with the ethics of social work and reinforces the importance of global solidarity and co-operation, particularly as we move through these unprecedented and challenging times.

 

World Social Work Day provides an important time for teams in Bridgend County Borough to reflect together on the past year, as well as consider how social work can offer positivity and hope for the future to local residents and communities.

People with care and support needs have been some of those who have been most affected by Covid-19. Social work has been at the core of the response to the global pandemic for people and communities in Bridgend.

Social workers have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and have had to draw on all of their professional skills and experience to keep people safe and as connected as possible. They have been creative and innovative in working with people with care and support needs.

World Social Work Day allows us to turn the spotlight on our tremendous social work teams who have worked so hard over the past 12 months. Bridgend County Borough Council greatly values social work as a profession. I’d like to thank staff once again for their vital contribution in supporting vulnerable children, families, adults and their carers within our communities.
