Council launches Brexit ‘chip and check’ service for EU nationals

Bridgend County Borough Council is continuing to make a range of support available as businesses and residents prepare for the UK’s departure from the European Union.

On Monday 3 June, a new ‘chip and check’ service will be launched to help EU nationals who wish to apply to continue to live and work locally. The service is aimed at people who need to scan and register their ID materials as part of their applications for obtaining settled or pre-settled status.

Based at Bridgend Register Office, the service is being made available as an alternative option to using a Government app which enables the documents to be scanned using a mobile phone or tablet.

It is being provided free of charge for residents of Bridgend County Borough, and costs £14 for non-residents who wish to use the service.

We are making this service available to support not only EU nationals who want to continue to live and work in the county borough once the UK leaves Europe, but the local businesses and employers who rely upon their skills, too.

While the scanning service does not guarantee the success of an application or provide status updates, it will help people as they gather the necessary materials and move through the process.
