Following the news that Bridgend Ford was meeting with trade unions to discuss potential job losses, Bridgend County Borough Council confirmed it stands ready to support the organisation and its employees.
Councillor Huw David, Leader, has contacted senior managers at the plant to offer the authority’s assistance.
At the same time, the council has been working closely with Welsh Government on proposals for assembling a specialist response team which could be mobilised into service in the event that significant redundancies become unavoidable.
We are doing all that we can to support Bridgend Ford and hopefully avoid job losses, but it makes sense to plan ahead and prepare a response team as a precautionary measure in the meantime.
We are sure partners will join us in forming a response team to be ready to offer support at short notice, and to include representatives from organisations such as the council, Business Wales, Careers Wales, the Department of Work and Pensions, Jobcentre Plus and more.
While the talks are still at a very early stage, we call upon UK Government to recognise the important role that Bridgend Ford plays as a major local employer, and to help us to protect the jobs and livelihoods of its staff.
