Bridgend County Borough Council has recruited additional workers to help maintain cemeteries located throughout the area.
As the local burial authority, Bridgend County Borough Council is responsible for cemeteries located at Blaenogwr, Bridgend, Cornelly, Pontycymer, Glynogwr, Laleston, Maesteg, Ogmore Vale, Pencoed, Porthcawl, Sarn, Llangeinor Churchyard, Betws Churchyard and Glynogwr Churchyard.
Two extra members of staff have joined the burials teams to help them catch up on work that had to be reprioritised due to the pandemic, and to carry out tasks ranging from grave digging to general maintenance.
As well as cutting back grass, keeping shrubs and hedges in check and ensuring that the cemeteries remain neat and tidy for visitors, the new staff will repair minor damage, make sure that bins are emptied regularly, remove litter and carry out levelling and seeding work.
Interacting with funeral directors and members of the public, they will also help ensure that burials, interments and graveside services run smoothly.
Our cemeteries team have worked throughout the coronavirus pandemic to support grieving families during some extremely challenging situations.
They continue to play an important role within the community, and I would like to offer the new members of the team a warm welcome.
