All council-maintained cemeteries in Bridgend County Borough are temporarily closing to the public as a result of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The cemeteries, which include the grounds of Coychurch Crematorium, will remain closed until further notice to help limit the risk of exposure.
Burials and cremations will still go ahead, although attendance will be limited to 10 close family members and social distancing measures will be in place.
The closures are being made under Regulation 7 (3) of the Public Health Wales - the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (Wales) Regulations 2020.
This decision has not been taken lightly, but the safety and well-being of the public must come first.
We understand that some people will find this difficult, and will do everything we can to open them again as soon as it is safe to do so.
Councillor Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities
Anne Robertson, Director of Schools for the Archdiocese of Cardiff, added: “It is important that we should all follow the guidance and advice given for the public health of all during this dangerous time of the coronavirus pandemic.
“This includes the closure of cemeteries to the public except for a burial service, when the maximum of 10 people would be allowed to congregate.
“Prayers for the living and the dead will continue to be offered in our churches, not least by means of the live streaming which is taking place throughout the diocese during Holy Week and Easter.”
