Crematorium donates £8k to heart charity

Eight thousand pounds raised by recycling metals that are collected from cremations at Coychurch Crematorium has been donated to the Welsh Hearts charity to help improve heart health and save lives in Wales.

Any recovered metals such as items used in the construction of the coffin and orthopaedic implants including hip and knee joints are recycled with relatives’ consent as the crematorium participates in the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s (ICCM) National Scheme for the Recycling of Metals.

The Coychurch Crematorium Joint Committee recently nominated Welsh Hearts as its chosen charity and was delighted to present the charity’s director Sharon Owen with a cheque for £8,000.

The Joint Committee were equally thrilled to be told that the crematorium will be given a defibrillator by Welsh Hearts and training will also be provided for staff.

The crematorium has been involved in the National Scheme for the Recycling of Metals since 2005 and has previously donated money to various local bereavement charities.
