Crematorium donates to breast cancer charity

Five thousand pounds raised by recycling metals that are collected from cremations at Coychurch Crematorium has been donated towards a local breast cancer charity.

Any recovered metals such as items used in the construction of the coffin and orthopaedic implants including hip and knee joints are recycled with relatives’ consent as the crematorium participates in the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s (ICCM) National Scheme for the Recycling of Metals.

The Coychurch Crematorium Joint Committee has donated its current share of money raised by the scheme to the ‘Giving to Pink’ appeal which aims to create a specialist breast care unit at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

It’s wonderful that the money raised from this process is going to such a worthy cause, helping to save other people’s lives.

The crematorium has been involved in the scheme since 2005 and has previously donated all of the proceeds to local bereavement charities.
