Delays due to wind turbine deliveries

Drivers are being warned to expect long delays while wind turbine towers, blades and other equipment are transported through parts of Bridgend County Borough early next month.

They will be delivered as part of a series of abnormal loads which will travel under South Wales Police escort from junction 37 of the M4 at Pyle to the Cenin Renewable Energy site on Stormy Down.

With the deliveries scheduled to take place between 3–14 February, the transporter vehicles will be so large that parts of the central barrier on the A48 will need to be removed to enable them to turn across both carriageways into Stormy Lane.

Throughout this period, reduced speed limits and lane closures will be in place along the A48 at Stormy Down, and drivers are being warned to expect possible delays between Junction 37 of the M4 at Pyle and the A48 / A473 junction at Laleston.

Lanes leading to the community recycling centre at Tythegston may also be affected.

While this is not something that Bridgend County Borough Council is directly involved in, we will be supporting South Wales Police as they escort the abnormal loads through the area to the Cenin site at Stormy Down.

The deliveries will be slow-moving because of the sheer size of the turbines, blades and other equipment, but they will take place during off-peak hours in order to minimise disruption as much as possible.

We are publicising details of the deliveries now to give drivers plenty of time to make alternative arrangements.
