Efforts to improve recycling in Wildmill

Improvements are being made in the Wildmill estate in Bridgend to make it easier for residents to recycle.

Bridgend County Borough Council, in partnership with its recycling partners Kier and the Valleys 2 Coast housing association, are installing extra recycling bins in the Tairfelin area of the estate this week to take the number of bins up from seven to 11, and will create new dedicated collection points for refuse and purple bags.

Similar improvements have already had a positive effect in the Glanffornwg area of the estate, while the collection points for residents in Maesyfelin and TremGarth will be reviewed later this summer.

Since we brought in our new recycling arrangements last year, we’ve been monitoring the situation at estates with communal collection points such as Wildmill to see what improvements are needed to make collections run more smoothly.

Last December, the recycling points in the Glanffornwg part of Wildmill were moved to make them more accessible and easier to use, while education officers knocked on doors and delivered leaflets to help raise more awareness of recycling.

The impact has been positive so far, with less fly-tipping being reported in that area of the estate, but there are still some issues so we’re adding two more recycling stations into Glanffronnwg this month.

“By the end of the summer, improvements will have been made in all parts of Wildmill to make it easier for all residents to recycle their household waste. Our education officers will also be spending a lot of time in the estate, talking to residents about the benefits of recycling and explaining what can and what can’t be recycled.”
