Elvis-mania hits Bridgend primary school

A school in Bridgend has been hit by Elvis-mania after pupils learned about The King of Rock and Roll in class.

Pupils at Brackla Primary School have been studying Elvis Presley all term and produced a docu-drama on the iconic singer.

The video was presented to Peter Phillips, the founder of Porthcawl’s popular Elvis Festival.

The school even held an Elvis Fun Day for their Year Six pupils to celebrate all their hard work and were treated to a visit from one of the festival’s best performers, Juan Lozano, who made sure to make the schoolhouse rock.

Pupils also worked with Expressive Arts teachers from Brynteg School. Sara Topham who is a learning coordinator at Brynteg is also the Porthcawl Elvis Festival Artist and runs Elvis Enrichment and Community art projects.

She said: “This project has really sparked the imagination and creativity of the pupils. The docu-drama showcases the talents of every pupil involved.

“It has been an absolute treat to work with such enthusiastic pupils.”

Gethin Still, a Year Six teacher at the school, said: “I am extremely proud of how hard pupils have worked on this project.

“They have produced an amazing docu-drama about Elvis’ early years and his rise to fame.

“They have immersed themselves in all aspects of the Expressive Arts Curriculum and were all very excited to be presenting our work to festival organisers on Wednesday.”

They worked extremely hard on the excellent docu-drama and certainly deserved a day of celebration as reward for the efforts.

Hopefully we will see them enjoying the Porthcawl Elvis Festival when it returns.
