Extra Care residents settling in nicely

Residents of ‘Ty Ynysawdre’, Bridgend’s latest ‘Extra Care’ scheme, have celebrated their new homes with a special afternoon tea.

A partnership between Linc Cymru (Linc) and Bridgend County Borough Council, Ty Ynysawdre provides 25 extra care apartments and 15 residential beds for people over 65.

Extra care provides support that meets people’s individual needs, while they live independently in their own homes. With areas to socialise, such as a communal living area and dining room, as well as a hair salon, Ty Ynysawdre supports people to live active lives.

Since moving in at the beginning of the year, residents have been enjoying their new apartments and getting to know their neighbours at the development which is next door to Brynmenyn Primary School and Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen.

The official opening was an opportunity for residents to celebrate alongside guests, including Huw Irranca-Davies AM, local councillors, and staff from Linc and Bridgend County Borough Council.

Guests were given a tour of the scheme, before sitting down to enjoy tea and cake with residents, who shared how they were settling in and had met new friends.

Beverley Mills, Board Member, Linc said: “It was a privilege to be at the official opening of Ty Ynysawdre, an excellent new service for older people in Bridgend with additional needs. It also showcases the continuing partnership between Linc and the County Borough Council in providing high standards of accommodation and care.

“I spoke to several residents who are delighted with their new flats and the hotel style catering and plush surroundings. In his speech, Councillor Phil White said, 'this is 5-star accommodation' and I would definitely agree.”

Together with its sister development in Maesteg, which will be completed soon, Ty Ynysawdre is going to offer huge benefits for people and forms a major part of our ongoing plans for modernising residential care services.

I am delighted that the council is working in partnership with Linc Cymru to provide these vital community assets, and I am sure that Ty Ynysawdre will become a widely-recognised and popular landmark development in the county borough.
