Local businesses from town centres across Bridgend County Borough have been showcased in a new festive video.
Featuring retailers from Bridgend, Porthcawl and Maesteg, the video aims to highlight the unique nature of the county borough’s town centre shopping offer and encourages people to shop local this Christmas.
The video, which is set to be released on Saturday 4 December, coincides with Small Business Saturday UK, a grassroots, non-commercial campaign which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to support small business in their communities.
It also ties in with Bridgend County Borough Council’s ‘Spend Christmas in your town centre’ initiative. As well as encouraging people to visit their local town centre, the initiative offers residents a new and exclusive offer from a local business via an online advent calendar.
There is also an app for each town centre which contain the latest offers, competitions and vouchers from local retailers. More information about the initiative can be found on the Bridgend Digital Christmas website.
Kirsten Evans, of Bridgend’s Ultimate Beauty and Hair, said: “Shopping locally at Christmas is what we need as a town. It’s a beautiful town, it’s fantastic, the people are so friendly – why wouldn’t you want to come and shop here?”
Michelle Smith, of Divine jewellery and accessories in Porthcawl, said: “You can spend the whole day here wandering along the seafront, going into all the local cafes and restaurants, and then you can hit the high street.
“People should shop locally every Christmas and all year round. We want to have variety in our shopping, we want to have independence, we want to support the community and help local families.”
Lexi Padget, who runs Lexi Beauty Therapy in Maesteg, said: “Christmas shopping in Maesteg is special because there are a lot of creatives in Maesteg so there are a lot of handmade items.
“People should come to Maesteg to shop because they’ll be surprised what they can get here.”
This video really does highlight the wealth of unique, independent businesses that our town centres have to offer and shows the passion and love that goes into ensuring they thrive.
Our small businesses in Bridgend, Porthcawl and Maesteg town centres offer customers a great choice for Christmas shopping as well as service, tradition and innovation.
I encourage everyone to support our local businesses, not just this Christmas, but for years to come to ensure our town centres thrive.
