Bridgend County Borough Council is looking to change its approach to supporting school children who are eligible for free school meals.
It is proposing to replace the current packed lunch provision with a five-day food parcel which will be delivered to each household.
The food parcel would include sufficient food items to provide both breakfast and lunch for a child for five days.
For pupils with special dietary requirements a five-day frozen meal option is proposed.
The local authority will assume that all pupils registered as eligible for free school meals will require a delivered food parcel unless parents or carers opt-out of this arrangement. Schools will be contacting parents on that basis.
We will be finalising details in the coming days for the food parcels to be delivered to each child in the near future.
We will make a further announcement when the details are finalised.
