Free and unlimited Wi-Fi will be available in town centres across Bridgend County Borough under a new scheme aimed at increasing connectivity among residents, businesses and visitors.
Initially the free Wi-Fi service will be available in public areas in Bridgend, Porthcawl, Maesteg and Pencoed.
The £70,000 investment will see Wi-Fi infrastructure installed at the same time as a new CCTV system.
The free and unlimited Wi-Fi offer forms part of a wider initiative the local authority is working on, helping to create a Smart Borough using digital technologies for the benefit of residents and businesses in the area.
At the centre is a new, modern CCTV system being rolled out with further plans involving the use of technology to help deliver better traffic management, smart parking, improved water and waste services, more efficient lighting and energy use in buildings and safer infrastructure, among other benefits.
Bridgend County Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Hywel Williams
The funding for the free Wi-Fi system was approved at a recent full council meeting.
