Help and support available for carers

Bridgend County Borough Council is reminding anyone who is a carer for a relative, neighbour or friend that help and support remains available throughout the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The Bridgend Carers Wellbeing Service, which is provided by Carers Trust South East Wales, is operating a 24/7 helpline offering up-to-date information and advice which can help point you towards further community resources.

The council’s website offers information and links to accessing support and keeping yourself safe during the pandemic with links to the latest advice from Welsh Government and Public Health Wales.

Carers can also find information on issues ranging from finances to improving and maintaining physical and emotional wellbeing.

To help spread awareness of this, Carers Development officer Kathy Proudfoot, has recorded a video message which you can view at the Facebook page of the Carers Trust South East Wales.

The video, which is one of several produced by the Carers Trust, outlines how people can access support while also detailing Kathy’s own experiences as a carer.

Councillor Phillip White, Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help, said: “Kathy’s video offers a very honest and personal insight into ensuring that carers know how to access the support they need, and I’d like to thank her for all her efforts.

“I hope that people who may be providing care will access the available support, and share the video so that it reaches as many people as possible.”
