NHS Covid passes came into force across Wales today (Monday) which will require people to demonstrate that they are fully vaccinated against coronavirus in order to enter nightclubs and attend indoor or outdoor organised events.
The introduction of the pass aims to cut transmission of the virus at nightclubs, indoor non-seated events for more than 500 people, outdoor non-seated events with more than 4,000 in attendance, or any setting or event featuring more than 1,000 people.
Anyone who is over 16 and has been fully vaccinated or who has had a negative lateral flow test result within the past 48 hours can get a pass. The passes are also compulsory for anyone aged 18 or more wishing to enter nightclubs and events.
The NHS Covid Pass is available digitally and requires users to register at the NHS website. Users will need to upload a photo of their ID including passport, full UK driving licence or full European driving licence.
This allows access to a Covid Pass using a smart phone, computer or laptop. The pass includes a barcode and expiry date. The expiry date refers to the barcode, and will update automatically. It does not apply to your vaccination status.
Paper NHS Covid-19 certificates can also be requested by those who are unable to use the digital pass. Requests can be made by calling 0300 303 5667 and can take up to 10 working days to arrive.
I welcome the Welsh Government’s introduction of Covid Passes in Wales. The pandemic is far from over, and this is an effective way of ensuring that events and venues are as safe as possible while helping to cut down on coronavirus transmission rates.
Council Leader Huw David
