Latest update to lockdown arrangements

Welsh Government guidance on lockdown arrangements during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic has been updated.

Following the recent announcement from First Minister Mark Drakeford, the lockdown is set to continue in Bridgend County Borough with several minor changes.

While general advice remains that residents should stay at home, avoid all unnecessary contact, exercise locally and minimise the risk of exposure to the virus, from 1 June people from two different households will be able to meet each other outdoors in e.g. private gardens or parks.

This will be allowed as long as they remain two metres apart, stay within five miles of their home, observe strict hand-hygiene procedures and avoid meeting inside someone’s home.

Emphasising the importance of limiting potential exposure to the virus, First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “This is not an invitation to go into a garden, have a few beers and start mixing in a way that potentially harms you or other people.”

The new advice follows previous updates which have enabled people to exercise more than once a day as long as they stay local, and an increase in the maximum fine for repeated breaches of coronavirus lockdown rules in Wales from £120 to £1,920.

The ongoing safety and well-being of our residents remains our top priority, and I fully support Welsh Government’s stance on a sensible, phased approach to the lifting of lockdown procedures, including the decision not to reopen schools in June.
