Maesteg Reuse Shop reopening August 18

The reuse shop at the Maesteg Recycling Centre is reopening on Tuesday, August 18.

The shop, called the Siding, contains everything from bikes and scooters to books and DVDs, speakers, games and crockery.

It is run by social enterprise Wastesavers in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council and Kier.

Alun Harries, charity manager at Wastesavers, said: “We’re really looking forward to opening up again and welcoming people back to The Siding. We know many residents have been doing clear outs so I think we’ll have some great bargains on offer.

“We’ve been busy making the shop as safe as possible, so please follow the guidelines when you arrive and we’re sure you will have a safe and productive visit.”

During the five month period it was open before lockdown, The Siding helped to divert 6,500 useful items weighing more than 13 tonnes away from going into the recycling skips. These have been sold for more than £3,500, and it has all been invested by Wastesavers into volunteer and social programmes.
