Do you know someone who regularly goes the extra mile for others, raised an outstanding amount of money for a charitable cause, or has put the local area on the map by achieving something special?
As 2019 draws to a close, local residents are being urged to nominate individuals, groups or businesses they think are deserving of a Mayor’s Citizenship Award.
Every year, the residents of Bridgend County Borough are asked to nominate those unsung heroes who deserve a special ‘thank you’ or ‘well done’ from the local community.
I’m very much looking forward to meeting these people and giving them the appreciation they deserve, so please get your nominations in as soon as possible.
Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, Councillor Stuart Baldwin
The awards are organised by Bridgend County Borough Council and are open to those who live in the area, as well as local groups and businesses who have shown the kind of values that make the county borough great.
Last year’s winners included the youngest recipient of the award so far – Hollie Evans, an 11-year-old Litchard Primary School pupil recognised for raising positive awareness of Down’s Syndrome as well as her charitable exploits in aid of children with cancer.
Several amazing volunteers also won awards, including the volunteers who run the Techtivity Club in Porthcawl where children with various needs meet and play with specialist technology and software in a safe, welcoming environment.
A number of local residents were also recognised for their efforts, including Bryntirion resident Jean Gorick - a dedicated poppy appeal fundraiser for 40 years - and Pencoed shopkeeper David Baynham, who was recognised for the various ways in which he has supported his community.
The deadline for Mayor’s Citizenship Award nominations is Friday 24 January 2020, and the award winners will be honoured at an event hosted by the Mayor at the Civic Offices in Bridgend in March 2020.
