Do you know someone who regularly goes the extra mile for others, is an outstanding charity fundraiser, or has put the local area on the map by achieving something special during 2018?
As the year comes to a close, the Mayor of Bridgend County Borough is asking local residents to put forward their nominations of individuals, groups or businesses who are worthy of a Mayor’s Citizenship Award.
Every year, the residents of Bridgend County Borough are asked to nominate those unsung heroes who deserve a special ‘thank you’ or ‘well done’ from the local community. I’m very much looking forward to giving these special people the appreciation they deserve, but first of all I need your help. Please get your nominations in as soon as possible!

Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council, the awards are open to people who live in the county borough, as well as local groups and businesses based locally.
Last year’s winners included Gemma Hartnoll, from Cornelly, who is the founder of WINGS Cymru. Gemma received her award for the excellent work she has done to combat ‘period poverty’ by providing free sanitary products in schools for girls who need them.
Several kind-hearted volunteers also won awards including the volunteers who run the Wyndham Boys and Girls Club in the Ogmore Valley, and Geoff Cheetham who gives up great amounts of time to help older members of the community stay active and social at his Young at Heart Club in Cefn Glas.
A number of charity champions were also recognised for their efforts, including Pat Griffiths who has raised thousands of pounds for Latch, the children’s cancer charity.
The deadline for Mayor’s Citizenship Award nominations is Friday 25 January 2019, and the award winners will be honoured at an event hosted by the Mayor at the Civic Offices in Bridgend in March 2019.
