New modular classrooms arrive at Mynydd Cynffig Primary

State-of-the-art new modular classrooms have been lifted into place at Mynydd Cynffig Primary School ready for when the new term begins in September.

The modular classrooms, which have been manufactured to a high standard, will ensure that infants can continue to be educated on site after work to repair a burst pipe at their former premises revealed further damage which forced the building to close.

Nobody should make the mistake of thinking that the children will be educated and cared for within traditional, temporary hut or cabin-style style facilities – the new modular classrooms are of permanent quality, with an expected lifespan of at least 60 years, and represent a £1.2m investment into the school.

Although they have been constructed, following competitive tendering, in a local factory employing around 100 people and designed so that they can be assembled on site, many will find the modular classrooms indistinguishable from conventional school buildings as they come complete with toilet facilities, energy-efficient windows and heating, effective insulation and more. Manufactured in a matter of weeks and installed on site in days, they represent a fast, effective solution which uses 21st Century technology to remove the need for the pupils to put up with a wet and muddy building site. Instead, they can be taught in a modern, comfortable learning environment.

When pupils return to school in September, the infant class will no longer have to use temporary facilities which were generously provided by Corneli Primary School, Ysgol Y Ferch O’r Sgêr and the Integrated Children’s Centre to receive their education. Parents, carers and guardians can be assured that the children will benefit from an excellent new learning environment, and I would like to thank them for their patience and co-operation over the past few months. In the longer term, feasibility work is also taking place on work to supply the community with a brand new, all-through primary school. We are seeking to provide this on a single site in Kenfig Hill, and I look forward to seeing the plans develop and take shape.
