Ongoing support for local businesses to help keep shoppers and traders safe

Bridgend County Borough Council is continuing to work closely with local businesses to help keep shoppers and traders safe.
With parts of the tourism and hospitality sector having already reopened and plans for indoor hospitality to reopen on August 3, the local authority is providing local businesses with a complimentary customer register book if they don’t already have the means of recording and maintaining the personal data of customers, staff and visitors in support of the Welsh Government’s Test Trace Protect programme.
Hospitality businesses are invited to register their details for a book by emailing tourism@bridgend.gov.uk and it will be delivered later this week.
The Welsh Government Test Trace Protect strategy is key to controlling the spread of coronavirus as lockdown restrictions are lifted. With people increasingly coming into greater contact with others, there is naturally a higher risk of transmitting Covid-19 in some sectors.
Businesses have a very important role in supporting contact tracing and helping to keep Wales safe at this time. When people go to a restaurant, pub or café they’ll be asked for their name, phone number, and the time and date they visited. The information which is similar to that required when booking a table will help prevent coronavirus outbreaks and enable people to enjoy themselves confidently and safely this summer.
As part of our support for the hospitality sector in supporting the Test Trace Protect strategy, we have placed an order for over 200 customer registration books which are designed to record the required information in a secure way.

Since the launch of the Welsh Government £1.4bn financial rescue package, the council has processed over 2,250 applications, awarding £28m to local firms to help them meet the ongoing challenges of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
Over the last few months the local authority has been working alongside businesses to provide support and practical help ranging from free start-back training involving certification and ‘sneeze-guards’ to free car parking and reduced rates for small and medium-sized businesses using premises owned by Bridgend County Borough Council.
More than 60 businesses in the county borough have also achieved the UK-wide industry standard and consumer mark ‘We’re Good to Go’, created by VisitWales, in partnership with other national tourist organisations.
It means businesses can demonstrate that they are adhering to the respective government and public health guidance, have carried out a Covid-19 risk assessment and checked that they have the required processes in place.
