Outcome of school modernisation consultation presented to Cabinet

The outcome of the consultation on the proposed enlargement of Mynydd Cynffig Primary School has been presented to Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet.

A consultation was launched in November to gather the public’s opinions on a proposed £10.2m two-form entry school and a 75-place nursery on the site of the existing Mynydd Cynffig junior school, with effect from September 2025.

The school will be net zero carbon in operation, producing zero or negative carbon emissions as part of its operational energy. It is envisaged that the school will benefit from a central ‘street’ which can be used for independent learning, dedicated groups rooms, classrooms conducive to 21^st Century teaching and learning, and two all-weather sports pitches.

Both virtual and face-to-face consultations were organised for members of the public, school governors, school council, and school staff.

The outcome was largely positive, with 91 per cent of respondents indicating that they supported the proposal in an online survey.

It’s going to be great to see this new facility in Kenfig Hill. We are particularly excited about the school being located on one site for the first time in the school’s history. There are several educational benefits which will materialise from all pupils and school staff being on one site.

Discussions are continuing with wider stakeholders in Kenfig Hill, including the allotment holders and Air Cadets, to ensure their needs are met.
