Over 142,000 vaccinations given in Bridgend county borough

More than 142,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine have now been given to Bridgend County Borough residents.

Across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board area, a total of 448,837 vaccines have been given, which is made up of 301,057 first doses and 147,780 second doses. The total number of doses for Bridgend County Borough now stands at 142,128.

This week, 18-29 year olds will be receiving their first doses in the region with people over 40 who have not had their first dose and do not have a vaccine appointment being asked to complete the ‘Over 40’ form on the health board website. Anyone struggling to complete the form can call the health board’s vaccination advice line for assistance on 01685 726 464. Lines are open seven days a week, 9am to 4:30pm.

The vaccination programme continues to be a phenomenal success with community vaccination centres and primary care teams delivering hundreds of thousands of vaccines.

It is testament to the hard work of so many that Wales is leading the world, having now vaccinated a greater share of its total population than any other country with more than one million people.

However we know the virus has not gone away and it’s vital to continue to protect yourself and others by acting responsibly and following the guidelines in place on social distancing, washing hands, wearing face coverings where required and getting tested if symptoms appear.

Mobile testing remains available for anyone experiencing symptoms of coronavirus. A walk-through testing centre which opened on 29 May in the car park of Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen, Heol Yr Ysgol, Tondu, CF32 9EG will now close at the end of tomorrow (Friday 4 June). Until then it is open from 9am to 6pm and there is no need to book

A walk-through testing facility remains in place at the Bowls Hall car park off Bridgend Life Centre (Angel Street, Bridgend CF31 4AH). The site is open 7 days a week from 8am – 1pm for lateral flow test collection (no booking necessary) and 2pm – 8pm for symptomatic PCR testing (booking required).

And a walk-in mobile testing facility continues to be available at the Awel-Y-Mor Community Centre in Hutchwns Terrace, Porthcawl (CF36 5TP) between 9am and 6pm daily, with no appointment needed.
