Overnight road closures announced at Village Farm Industrial Estate as new recycling centre improvements enter the final stage

Work to improve the entrance to Village Farm Industrial Estate in Pyle is entering its final stage as Bridgend County Borough Council prepares to unveil an all-new £2.3m community recycling centre.

With the project nearing completion, the junction between the A48 Pyle Road and Heol Mostyn is set to receive a new road surface to complement recently installed traffic lights and a dedicated turning lane.

To minimise disruption and ensure that the junction can still be used during the day, the resurfacing work has been scheduled to take place overnight from 18-22 October between 7.45pm and 6am.

Between these hours, the A48 Pyle Road / Heol Mostyn junction will be closed to all traffic, and a temporary alternative route will be set up via the junction between Heol Mostyn and Marshfield Avenue.

While the road closure is in place, a weight restriction along Marshfield Avenue that normally prevents heavy goods vehicles from using the road to access the industrial estate will be temporarily lifted.

Residents and businesses have been informed, and are being assured that every effort will be made to complete the works as quickly as possible and to minimise inconvenience.

The junction improvements are being introduced to support traffic flow around the estate once the new recycling centre opens.

Capable of accommodating up to 24 vehicles at a time and with on-site queuing capacity for a further 72 vehicles, the new facility features a simple to use one-way system, a split-level design and bypass lanes to provide easy access to recycling skips located on two levels.

An all-weather canopy has been installed along with flexible bollards to help guide drivers. With solar powered lighting across the site, flat kerb-free parking bays have been installed to enhance safety and remove potential trip hazards for people carrying waste from their cars.

This project represent a £2.3m investment into new facilities and access improvements for Village Farm Industrial Estate as well as the creation of an all-new facility that will help thousands of households to recycle even more waste.

We would like to thank the residents who live near the industrial estate for their patience and co-operation while the improvement works are completed. While it is impossible to finish the works or set up an temporary alternative route without causing some inconvenience, the times and dates have been carefully chose to avoid both peak traffic periods and main business trading hours, and every effort will be made to avoid further disruption.

With a new dedicated turning lane, traffic lights and a fully refurbished and improved road surface, the completed work is going to make it much easier and safer for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
