Pupils at Bryntirion Comprehensive asked to self-isolate

More than 200 pupils at Bryntirion Comprehensive have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days following the confirmation of a Covid-19 case at the school.

The pupils, who are in Year Seven, have all been identified as having had potential contact with the person who has tested positive. Three staff at the school have also been affected.

With a deep clean of the school premises underway, they have been asked to remain at home as a precautionary measure in order to reduce the possible spread of the virus to family, friends and the wider community. All other year groups will continue to attend school as planned.

Head teacher Ravi Pawar said: “As soon as the school was informed about the positive test result, prompt action was taken to safeguard the well-being of pupils, teachers and staff.

“Their continued well-being remains a top priority, and the school is continuing to work closely alongside the council and Public Health Wales to ensure that lessons can continue as normal.

“We are using online access, virtual classrooms and blended learning techniques to ensure that all those affected can continue to participate in and benefit from lessons.

“This is still an ongoing process, and pupils, parents, carers and guardians will be kept up to date on any new arrangements.”

The pandemic is still ongoing, and it is more essential than ever for the whole community to remain alert for symptoms of Covid-19, and to ensure that all national guidance is followed to help combat the spread of the virus.

Procedures are already in place within local schools to limit class numbers and pupil contact. With enhanced cleaning regimes in place, there is no need for anyone who has not been contacted to self-isolate or be unduly concerned.

School staff continue to remain vigilant for pupils displaying any symptoms, and are ready to take appropriate action. Parents, carers and guardians can support this by remaining alert and ensuring that children do not attend school if they develop any potential symptoms.
