The red carpet was out last week at the Bridgend Odeon for the premiere of ‘Dragon Hunters’, a movie made by a group of year 6 pupils who will be moving up to Maesteg Comprehensive School in September.
Developed by teachers from six feeder primary schools – Llangynwyd, Caerau, Nantyffyllon, Cwmfelin, Garth and Plasnewydd – as well as staff from Maesteg Comprehensive, the project involved a variety of research and creative tasks which climaxed with the pupils seeing themselves on the silver screen.
What an amazing experience to see yourself in a movie! As well as the actual movie, this project has also led to the pupils putting together an impressive body of work. The project clearly captured their imagination and both parents and teachers should feel rightly proud of the effort and enthusiasm the students have put into it. This cinema trip was a fine way to celebrate the end of term and reward their hard work. On behalf of the schools, I would like to thank the Odeon for providing the free screening.

The ‘Dragon Hunters’ project was one of many innovative school initiatives showcased at Bridgend County Borough Council’s first ever ‘Festival of Learning’ in June.
