Raise funds for dementia sensory garden

Bridgend Resource Centre is raising money to create a new community sensory garden for people with dementia or learning and physical disabilities.

As research shows that being outside and moving freely can help reduce tension and anxiety amongst people with dementia, the centre wants to develop a custom-built space where they can stroll freely and exercise.

For people with complex needs, having a garden that is suited to their needs can be a vital part of their support and offers a unique opportunity to use their senses of touch, feel and smell.

The sensory garden will enhance the standard of dementia care that is already provided at the resource centre, and I hope that people will help make it a reality by supporting centre staff as they strive to raise funds.

To support the fundraising efforts, residents can now donate unwanted clothing, shoes and linen by putting them in a black bag and dropping them into an all-new recycling bank located opposite Lidl in Bridgend Retail Park. The new recycling bank will be emptied weekly and the weight of donated items will be transferred into cash to go towards the new sensory garden development.

Residents can also raise funds by using a smart phone or tablet to shop online through an app called ‘easyfundraising’. With thousands of participating online shops including Tesco, Asda, Amazon, eBay and Booking.com, a percentage of every purchase will be donated to the Bridgend Resource Centre - find out more and download the easyfundraising app here.
