Work is due to start today (Wednesday, August 26) on repairing the roof of the Watersports Centre in Rest Bay, Porthcawl, after the strong winds from Storm Francis.
Following roof damage of the centre which includes the surf school and café, the centre was temporarily closed.
Temporary barriers have been installed to prevent the public from gaining access to the area in case any debris comes away from the building.
The fire service attended the site yesterday and knocked on local residents doors to make them aware of the situation. We also had a team from our highways department who stayed there all night to ensure the area remained safe.
Contractors attended the site yesterday and ordered a cherry picker to remove the panel and make the building safe today. We hope to reopen the building as soon as it is safe to do so.
