Residents and care settings reminded about purple bag collections

A campaign to promote the use of Absorbent Hygiene Product (AHP) services within Bridgend County Borough has been launched.

As part of the waste and recycling services in the county borough, the council and waste partners Kier collect absorbent hygiene products that cannot be disposed of in normal recycling. Items included in these collections include: absorbent bed sheets, disposable aprons, nappies, wipes and more. The service currently runs fortnightly for residents who have registered for the service and collections take place on the same day as non-recyclable waste.

Residents and care workers are reminded that purple bags will not be collected if they include general household waste or sanitary items and can be double-bagged for privacy before being put out for collection.

Our AHP collections have proven to be extremely popular over the years and has resulted over 4,826 tonnes of nappies and other items being diverted from landfill and sent to recycling. This service is great for households and care settings across the county borough and helps make a significant contribution towards our already-impressive recycling statistics as well as benefitting the environment.
