The road to Rest Bay beach in Porthcawl is to be temporarily closed with access strictly limited to residents that require use of the road to access their own properties, following concerns over groups of people gathering on the beach.
While Bridgend County Borough Council closed its public car park opposite the beach a week ago, there are reports of people continuing to drive to the area and parking on access road  verges.
We are using our emergency powers to close the road to Rest Bay, this will be patrolled and enforced. It is critical people adhere to government guidance over social distancing to help us have the best chance of stopping the spread of coronavirus.
This road closure is a temporary measure, we will reopen it when it is safe to do so. Residents that require the road to access their homes such as those at The Links will still be able to access their properties.
We will do whatever it takes with South Wales Police to keep people safe.
