School update for Bridgend County Borough 15 09 20

Bridgend County Borough Council has issued an update on schools that are experiencing cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

At Llangynwyd Primary School, a member of staff has returned a positive test for coronavirus. As a result, 19 pupils and 11 members of staff are self-isolating as a precautionary measure.

At Mynydd Cynffig Primary School, a member of staff has tested positive, with 30 pupils and four other staff members all self-isolating.

A Year Nine pupil at Brynteg School has tested positive, which has resulted in more than 200 pupils and 15 staff self-isolating.

At Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School, 178 pupils are self-isolating after a Year Seven pupil tested positive. A member of staff is also self-isolating following a previous, unrelated positive test result.

At Penyfai Primary, a Year Five pupil has tested positive, leading to 30 pupils and a single member of staff self-isolating. All affected schools have received advice from Public Health Wales.

Those who are self-isolating are continuing to receive lessons thanks to online access, virtual classrooms and blended learning facilities. Schools have been preparing for pupils to return for some time now, and have been able to take swift action in each case to act promptly upon the precautionary advice supplied by Public Health Wales.

All schools have a full range of measures in place to reduce risk, limit contact and maintain high standards of hygiene, and unaffected pupils should continue to attend lessons as normal. Parents, carers and guardians can support efforts to fight the spread of the coronavirus by remaining vigilant, and not sending children to school if they exhibit any symptoms.

The pandemic is far from over, and I’d like to thank pupils, teachers, staff, parents, carers and guardians for their continued co-operation and understanding.
