Second round of Fuel Support Scheme aims to help more households

The Welsh Government Fuel Support Scheme is now being rolled out for a second time and will be expanded to support a wider community that meets the criteria to receive the grant. 

Initially launched in 2021, in response to the ongoing rise in energy costs, the scheme originally provided struggling households with a one-off payment of £100 to help with winter heating bills. In February, this figure was doubled to £200. 

This second roll out, beginning from the 26 September 2022 and ending on the 28 February 2023, will be offered to an increased number of households. A single payment of £200 is expected to be distributed to those eligible from October 2022.    

The scheme is in addition to the Energy Bill rebate being offered by the UK Government and the Winter Fuel Payment normally paid to pensioners.

Bridgend County Borough Council has contacted people that they believe are eligible by letter, with applications being made available online through the council’s ‘My Account’ facility.

The initiative is open to households where an applicant is in receipt of any of the named qualifying benefits.  To find out more about the eligible criteria, as well as additional information, visit the Bridgend County Borough Council website

We are urging local residents to take advantage of the support being offered by Welsh government.

The last time that the scheme was implemented, thousands of eligible households in the county borough benefitted from receiving a payment. On this occasion, we hope to increase this number further, with the scheme being expanded to reach a wider group of eligible people.

We really hope that the funding will help to alleviate some of the financial burden that people are experiencing at present.
